How to Find Greek Letters in Word

By Dawn Marcotte

Greek letters are still in common use on college campuses and in mathematics. The standard word processing keyboard does not contain these specialized letters. Determine which specific Greek letters are required before beginning. The Greek alphabet shares some similarities with English but many of the letters are very different.

Things You'll Need

  • Word
  • Knowledge of the Greek alphabet

Step 1

Open Microsoft Word. Open the document that needs the Greek letter. Place the cursor where the letter should be inserted.

Step 2

Click "Insert" from the toolbar and then "Symbol." This will open a table of symbols.

Step 3

In the "Subset" box in the upper right, click to see a drop-down list of alphabets. Click on "Basic Greek" and the table of Greek symbols will appear. If it doesn't, check the "Font" box in the upper left and click on a font that will give you the Greek characters.

Step 4

Highlight the desired letter with the cursor and hit enter. The Greek letter will be added to the text of the Word document.
