How to Find Out Who Is Calling From a Blocked Number

By Herman Cruz

When you receive a call from someone whose caller ID number is concealed, your phone will display "Blocked," "Restricted" or "Private Number" instead of the caller's phone number. If you are receiving threatening or harassing calls from a blocked number, you should record the time and date that you receive these calls and report them to your local law enforcement. However, if you are simply curious about who is calling from a blocked number, you can use the TrapCall service to reveal the blocked number.

Things You'll Need

  • TrapCall account

Step 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to the TrapCall website at Trapcall.com.

Step 2

Click on the "Sign Up" tab in the upper-right corner of the page.

Step 3

Choose one of the three monthly plans available. The "Bear Trap" plan is $24.95 a month, the "Mouse Trap" plan is $9.95 a month and the "Bug Trap" plan is $4.95 a month. If you are only looking to find out who is calling you from a blocked number, the "Bug Trap" plan is a good option.

Step 4

Enter your phone number, choose your carrier and assign a PIN to your account in the fields displayed below "Information About Your Phone." As of March 2011, TrapCall only works with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint.

Step 5

Enter your first name, last name, email address and your time zone in the fields below "Your Information."

Step 6

Select the billing plan you prefer. You can choose a 12-month plan, a 6-month plan or a 1-month plan. Provide your credit card billing information. Click the "Create My Account" tab at the bottom of the page to complete the sign up process.

Step 7

Wait until you receive a call with a blocked number. When the call rings, do not answer the phone -- reject or ignore the call. The call will be sent to TrapCall. There, the number will be unblocked and then the call will be sent back to ring your phone with the phone number unblocked.

Tips & Warnings

  • TrapCall does not unblock calls that display an Unknown number. This is because an "Unknown" caller is different from one where the Caller ID number is blocked. Calls identified as "Unknown" are generally from international callers.
