How to Find POP3 Settings

Post Office Protocol 3 is a technology that lets you send and receive your web-based email such as Yahoo!, Hotmail and Gmail. Typically POP3 settings involve the names of incoming and outgoing servers and settings that dictate how your computer system communicates with these servers. Knowing where your POP3 settings are within your email client such as Windows Mail, Outlook Express or Mac Mail makes troubleshooting and updating these applications that much easier. It takes about one minute to find the POP3 settings within your email client.

Windows Mail and Outlook Express

Step 1

Open your Windows Mail application.

Step 2

Hit "Tools" in the main menu bar.

Step 3

Scroll down and click "Accounts."

Step 4

Hit the "Properties" button on the right side.

Step 5

Select the "General" tab to view the POP3 server and account information. Hit the "Advanced" tab to view POP3 server port information.

Mac Mail

Step 1

Launch your Mac Mail application.

Step 2

Hit "Mail" in the main menu bar.

Step 3

Scroll down and click "Preferences."

Step 4

Hit the "Accounts" tab in the window that appears. Choose the POP3 account that you want to view on the left side of the window.

Step 5

View the POP3 settings. To view more settings regarding this account, click "Server Settings ..."
