How to Find Telephone Numbers on Google

By Shannon Cotton

Instead of thumbing through a phone book when you need to find a telephone number, you can find listed telephone numbers quickly using the Google search page. The feature is especially handy when you need contact information for a person who lives outside of your local phone directory’s coverage area.

Step 1

Go to Google's homepage (see the link in the Resource section below).

Step 2

Enter the first and last name of the person followed by his city, state or zip code in the search box. You can also enter a business name and location. If you don't have all of this information, you may still be able to find the phone number. For instance, you can enter “John Doe TX” and view search results for everyone in Texas with that name.

Step 3

Click the “Search” button.

Step 4

Locate the “Phonebook results,” which should be the first search result if Google has the person’s contact information. You should see the person’s name, phone number and address next to a picture of a yellow telephone.

Step 5

Click the “Phonebook results for (name)” link at the top of the page if there are multiple listings. You will be taken to a Google PhoneBook search results page where you can view all of the results that match your search criteria.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your search does not return any Google PhoneBook results, the person you are looking for may have an unlisted number, or she may have requested that Google remove the number from search results. To be sure, you can type “phonebook:” followed by the person’s name and location in the search box. This will search Google PhoneBook results directly.
