How to Find the IP Address for a Netgear Router

When you connect a Netgear router to your network, the router is given an IP address on the local network. If it's been a while since you configured the router, you may have forgotten the IP address. You need the IP address to configure the Linksys to support the changes you make on your network. You can use a command called "tracert" to find the IP address of your Netgear router. Tracert traces the IP addresses from your computer to the destination. For each hop, an IP address is shown in the command line window of the Windows machine.

Step 1

Click the Windows Start button and select "Run." Enter "cmd" into the text box and press the "Enter" key.

Step 2

Type "tracert" into the command prompt. The output listed in the syntax you need to trace an IP router from your machine to a host machine.

Step 3

Type "tracert" into the command prompt. Replace the "" with your ISP's domain name.

Step 4

View the first IP address listed in the table of data output. The first IP address listed is the IP address of the Netgear router. For most installations, this is IP address
