How to Fix Adobe Reader

Because of its ability to open and create PDF documents, Adobe Reader is a very useful program to have on your computer. However, on occasion the application can freeze and stop working properly. When this happens, there is a basic troubleshooting method to follow to fix your installation of Adobe Reader. In order to repair Adobe Reader, you must have an account on your computer with administrative privileges.

Things You'll Need

  • PC running Windows XP or later
  • Adobe Reader 6 or later

Step 1

Log on to your PC computer with an administrator account.

Step 2

Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

Step 3

Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" control panel icon.

Step 4

Scroll down through the list of installed applications on your computer until you see "Adobe Reader."

Step 5

Highlight "Adobe Reader" from the list of applications and click on the "Change" button. The Adobe setup window will now open.

Step 6

Click "Next" and then select the "Repair" radio button.

Step 7

Hit "Next" again and then click "Install" to repair your installation of the Adobe Reader program. The repairing process should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
