How to Forward a Land Line to a Cell

By Mandy Slake

Being away from home doesn't mean you have to miss your calls, or tell people to call your cell phone instead. To make things easier, you can forward calls that go to your home phone to your cell phone. The person dialing your land line number will be transferred to your cell phone automatically. In order to activate call forwarding, you need to dial a special code on your land line phone. Once you're back at home, you can turn call forwarding off.

Step 1

Dial *72 to activate call forwarding on touch tone phones. In some areas, you will have to dial 72#. If you have a rotary phone, dial 1172.

Step 2

Listen for the dial tone.

Step 3

Dial the number of the cell phone you want to forward the calls to. Listen for the confirmation tone, then hang up the call.

Step 4

Make a test call by dialing your land line number and listening for your cell phone to ring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Disable call forwarding by dialing *73 or 73# from your home phone. If you have a rotary phone, dial 1173.
