How to Get a BIOS Error Log

The BIOS on your computer is one of the most important aspects of the system. The BIOS is used to keep the dates and times on the system current. The BIOS is also responsible for keeping the startup and shutdown processes in order. If you are having problems with your BIOS, you can check the BIOS system log. This will tell you everything that you need to know for diagnosing the problems with your system.

Accessing Through BIOS

Step 1

Turn your computer on and look for the BIOS instructions on the screen. The BIOS instructions will come on before the Windows logo appears.

Step 2

Follow the BIOS instructions. This will tell you to "Press F9 to Enter BIOS," or something similar to this.

Step 3

Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the "System Log" entry, and then press the "Enter" button.

Accessing Through The Operating System

Step 1

Click the "Start" button, and then click on the "Control Panel" icon.

Step 2

Click on the "System" icon, and then click the "Administration" icon.

Step 3

Click on the "Log File Viewer" icon to open the log file.
