How to Get Free Magellan Maestro Updates

By Melissa King

Magellan's Maestro series of GPS navigation devices offers audible turn-by-turn directions, an integrated AAA TourBook Guide and a points-of-interest database that displays locations like hotels, stores and restaurants. On occasion, free software updates are released for Magellan GPS devices that fix issues or add functionality. These updates can be downloaded from the Magellan website. After connecting your Maestro to the computer, the updates can be installed on the device.

Step 1

Go to the Magellan website and navigate to the "Support" tab. Click "Manuals & Software Updates." (See Resources)

Step 2

Use the drop-down menus at the right to select "Magellan Maestro Series." In the next menu, choose your model and click "Submit."

Step 3

Click the update listed under the "Updates" heading, then click "I want to download this update." Sign in to your Magellan account or create a new one if necessary.

Step 4

Click "Download Now." The file is downloaded to your computer. When it is finished downloading, open the file, and double-click on the .exe file inside.

Step 5

Click "Next" twice in the window that appears. Turn on the Maestro, and connect it to the computer using the included USB cable. Wait for the computer to recognize the Maestro.

Step 6

Click "Next" to begin the update process. When it is finished, a notification appears. At this time, disconnect the Maestro from the computer. The Maestro restarts automatically, completing the process.
