How to Get My Internet Explorer Search Bar Back on Top

By Chappy Sinclair

Internet Explorer allows you to change the position of the address bar (search bar) or hide it entirely. The address bar is used to enter Web addresses (URLs) and displays your current location on the Internet or the address/name of the file you're using. If you have multiple toolbars installed, you can place the address bar above those toolbars and directly under the menu bar -- which can also be moved or hidden.

Step 1

Click the "View" button at the top of Internet Explorer.

Step 2

Select "Toolbars." Click "Lock the Toolbars" to uncheck the setting.

Step 3

Click "Address Bar." The address bar will appear if it's not visible already. Click the edge of the address bar and drag it to the top of the browser.
