Pop-up ads can appear when your computer is infected with either spyware or adware. These malware enter your computer without your knowledge and generate pop-up ads to lure you into buying a product or register on a website. Pop-up ads not only annoy while you are working on your computer, they also slow down your computer and your Internet connection. Pop-up ads must be blocked or removed immediately to secure your computer from potential malware attacks.
Enable your pop-up blocker on your Internet Explorer browser. Click on "Tools" and select "Internet Options." Click on "Privacy" and locate the "Pop Up Blocker" subheading. Check the box next to "Turn On Pop-Up Blocker." Click on "Apply."
Enable your pop-up blocker on your Mozilla Firefox browser. Click on "Tools" and select "Options." Click on "Content." Check the box next to "Block Pop-Up Windows." Click on "OK."
Download an anti-spyware program. "Ad-Aware SE," "Malwarebytes" and "Spybot Search & Destroy" offer free downloads for home and personal use. See Resources to make a selection. Run a complete scan. An anti-spyware program is the best way to get rid of pop-up ads for free.
