How to Get Silverlight to Work With Netflix

By J.M. Chanel

Netflix began as a video rental service offering DVDs through the mail to users with paid monthly memberships. However, they've since introduced the "Watch Instantly" feature, which allows members to watch an unlimited amount of movies and TV shows as streaming video. Netflix's Watch Instantly section requires users to install Silverlight, a video plug-in created by Microsoft. Getting Microsoft Silverlight to work with Netflix Watch Instantly is simple and can be completed right from the Netflix web site.

Step 1

Open your Internet browser and visit netflix.com.

Step 2

Log in to your Netflix account and you will be redirected to the Netflix home page.

Step 3

Click the "Watch Instantly" tab.

Step 4

Find a movie or TV show you want to watch and click the blue "Play" button beneath its poster image. You will be redirected to a page prompting you to install Microsoft Silverlight.

Step 5

Click the "Install Now" button and follow the instructions displayed to install Microsoft Silverlight.

Step 6

Close your Internet browser and open it again. Visit netflix.com and click the "Play" button for the movie or TV show you want to watch. The Netflix Video Player will then load, using the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in.
