How to Get Songs Off Your iPod Onto a Computer
The iPod is a portable media player. IPod owners can download audio, image and video files to the device. Downloading to the device is straightforward. Users can use the iTunes software to manage media to the player. ITunes can also remove media from the player by deleting it. But iTunes doesn't allow users to copy music, downloaded to the player, to their computers. To do this, you will have to copy the music manually from the iPod_Control folder which is hidden on your computer.
Create a new folder on your desktop. You can use this folder to save your new songs to once you have copied them from your iPod. To create the folder, right-click in an empty space on your desktop. Then select "New" > "Folder" from the drop-down menu.
Connect your iPod to your computer with the USB sync cable. The iTunes software may automatically open once it detects your iPod connected to the computer. You can close iTunes, you won't need it.
Make your hidden folders visible. Click on your "start" button on your desktop. Chose the "Control Panel." Select "Appearance and Personalization" from the Control Panel menu. Next, select "Folder Options." Select the "View" tab and then click on "Show hidden files, folders and drives." Click the "OK" button to save your options.
Access your iPod_Control folder. Now that you have set your computer to show all hidden folders, the once hidden "iPod_Control" folder will now be visible. Start by clicking on "My Computer" in your start menu. The "My Computer" folder will list every drive and connected external device listed (e.g. C: drive). Double-click on the iPod device icon listed in this folder. Locate the "iPod_Control" folder inside of that, and double-click on it.
Locate the "Music" folder inside the iPod_Control folder. Then right-click on it and select "Copy" from the drop-down menu.
Go to the new folder that you created in Step 1. Double-click on that folder to open it. Then right-click inside the folder and select "Paste" from the drop-down menu. Your songs will now be copied to your computer.
