How to Get the Document Recovery Task Pane in Word 2007

By Carter McBride

The Document Recovery Task Pane allows users to recover different files after Microsoft Word crashes. There is no direct way to open the Document Recovery Task Pane in Microsoft Word, however, it is possible to fake a crash of Microsoft Word, which will then open the Document Recovery Task Pane. If you do not want to perform this method, then all the files saved in the Document Recovery Task Pane are on your computer somewhere with the file extension .asd.

Step 1

Open Microsoft Word.

Step 2

Press "Shift," "Ctrl" and "Esc" to open the Task Manager. Click the "Applications" tab.

Step 3

Select the Microsoft Word document that is open and close the program using the Task Manager.

Step 4

Reopen Microsoft Word and the Document Recovery Task Pane will now be open.
