How to Get to the MagicJack Softphone Screen

By Emily Jones

Because of the rising prices of hard-wired phone lines from local home phone service providers, companies like MagicJack are gaining in popularity. MagicJack offers VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service for $19.95 for an entire year, as of 2011, which is drastically less expensive than the monthly price of a traditional phone line. With a few simple steps, you are able to attach your MagicJack adapter to your computer and begin to make phone calls.

Step 1

Push the power button on your computer to turn it on. It is necessary for the computer to be on in order for the MagicJack to work, because the adapter makes and receives calls via the Internet.

Step 2

Plug your MagicJack into a USB port on your computer if it is not already plugged in. Make sure a phone cord is connected to the adapter as well as to the telephone you are going to use to make calls.

Step 3

Wait approximately 20 seconds for your computer to recognize that the MagicJack adapter is plugged in. After it is recognized as a valid process, an icon will appear on your computer's desktop.

Step 4

Locate the MagicJack icon on your computer's desktop and use your mouse to double-left-click on it to bring up the softphone screen. Alternatively, pick up the handset of the telephone that is plugged in to the adapter. The softphone window will appear on your computer screen. You will now be able to log in with your phone number and password to make and receive calls via your MagicJack.
