How to Hard Reset an HTC

By Cyndi L. Chao

On occasion, HTC Pocket PC Phone users have experienced problems with the phone locking up, preventing them from operating the phone or turning it off manually. A "hard reset" will return the phone to working order, restoring it to factory defaults (Windows Mobile Software and pre-installed applications).

Things You'll Need

  • Paperclip

Step 1

Turn the phone's power on.

Step 2

Press and hold the top Left and Right keys (the two keys above the Send and End keys).

Step 3

While holding the top Left and Right keys, insert an end of the paperclip into the reset hole, located on the bottom of the phone.

Step 4

A warning prompt will appear on the screen, confirming whether you want to do a hard reset. Press R for "Yes" and X for "No."

Tips & Warnings

  • Performing a hard reset will result in losing all the data you have saved onto the phone (phone numbers, files, third-party applications).
