How to Hook a DirecTV Box Wirelessly to the Internet

You can hook up your DirecTV set-top box to the Internet to unlock additional on-demand and other features for your satellite TV service. Use the DirecTV Cinema connection kit to connect the DirecTV receiver to the wireless network in your home or office. The connection kit includes a wireless adapter to join the receiver to the network. The DirecTV connection kit is available to order for free from the DirecTV customer service.

Things You'll Need

  • DirecTV connection kit

Step 1

Turn off the DirecTV set-top box.

Step 2

Plug the power adapter into the port on the rear of the connection kit and insert the other end into a power outlet.

Step 3

Insert one end of the included Ethernet cable into the networking port on the rear of the connection kit and plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the rear of your DirecTV receiver. The Power and Activity lights will appear on the front of the connection kit.

Step 4

Turn on your TV and the DirecTV receiver. The "Wireless Adapter Found" message will appear on the screen. Press "Enter" to open the setup page. Use the arrow keys to highlight the SSID or network name of your wireless network and press "Enter." Use the on-screen keypad to enter the password for your network, highlight the "Continue" and press "Enter" to complete the connection.
