How to Hook Up a Netgear N600

By Jason Artman

The Netgear N600 is a wireless broadband router with support for gigabit Ethernet networking and simultaneous broadcasts over two radio bands for increased wireless reliability. It has support for up to four simultaneously wired connections. Connect the N600 to your broadband router and to at least one computer, and then open a Web browser to get online.

Step 1

Lower the Netgear N600 vertically into the plastic stand until it snaps in place. Skip this step if you would rather mount the router horizontally.

Step 2

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the port on the back of your broadband modem, and connect the other end to the yellow port on the back of the Netgear N600. If you currently connect your modem to a computer, remove the Ethernet cable from the computer and connect it to the N600.

Step 3

Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to one of the numbered ports on the back of the N600, and then connect the other end to your computer's Ethernet port. Repeat this step for up to three additional computers. Skip it for computers that will connect to the N600 via Wi-Fi.

Step 4

Connect the power cable to the port on the left side of the N600 rear panel. Connect the other end of the cable to a power outlet.

Step 5

Remove the power cable from the back of your broadband modem for several seconds, and then re-insert it. Wait for the indicator lights on the front of the modem to turn solid before continuing.

Step 6

Push the button next to the port for the N600's power cable to turn the router on.

Step 7

Restart the computer connected to the N600 via an Ethernet cable. Upon restarting, the computer should be able to connect to the Internet. To connect to the N600 with a wireless laptop, click the wireless icon in the lower-right corner of the screen and then click the router named "NETGEAR" or "NETGEAR-5G."
