How to Hook Up a Phone to a Speaker
You can connect a cell phone to a speaker to conduct hands-free conversations. You can also enjoy music stored on your phone by listening to it over external speakers. Connecting a phone to a speaker is easy and does not require much technical know-how.
Things You'll Need
- Cell phone
- 3.5 mm stereo audio adapter
Determine the type of headphone jack on your phone by checking the phone manual. Most phones come with the 2.5 mm phone jack but some come with the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Buy an audio adapter based on the type of headphone jack on your phone. One end of the adapter should have a 3.5 mm jack.
Plug the phone end of the adapter cable into the headphone jack of the phone. This jack can be identified by the tiny headphone symbol next to it.
Plug the 3.5 mm jack into the speaker. Make sure both the speaker and phone are switched off when performing this step.
Switch on the phone and the speaker. Test the connection by playing some music at low volume and then slowly increasing the volume of the speaker as needed.
Tips & Warnings
- Do not bring your phone too close to the speaker, as it will result in feedback.
