How to Hook Up DirecTV to the Internet

By Ana Chandler

If you would like to access over 6,000 DirecTV on-demand titles, web-based applications like Facebook, DirecTV2PC or multimedia sharing, you must connect your receiver to the Internet. To use interactive features, you must have a D10, R15 or HR20 or newer and a high-speed Internet connection.

Things You'll Need

  • Ethernet cables

Step 1

Plug your Internet router into an electrical outlet. Insert an Ethernet cable into one end of the router.

Step 2

Connect the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into the receiver. The Ethernet port is found on the back of your receiver.

Step 3

Configure your connection by choosing "Configure Now" on your TV and follow the on-screen prompts. Press "Menu" on your receiver remote and choose "Parental, Favorites & Setup." Select "Network" and "Connect Now" to finish the installation.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can determine your receiver model by using your DirecTV remote. Press "Menu," "Settings" and "Info and Test."
  • Connecting your receiver also allows your or a family member to make Pay Per View charges through your remote. To restrict this, click "Parental Controls" and set a customized Pay Per View limit.
