When using an HD (high definition) television there are multiple HDMI input connections installed on the TV. These allow you to hook up outside HD devices such as cable receivers, blu-ray players and next generation gaming systems. However, there is also at least one HDMI out port, in which you may send digital sound to a surround sound receiver. Because only one cable is required for the hook up it does not take long to setup your HDTV to a surround sound receiver.
Insert the HDMI cable into the HDMI "Out" port on the rear of the high definition television.
Plug the opposite end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI "In" connection port on the back of your surround sound receiver. Although the cable is capable of sending both audio and video signals only the audio is sent to the receiver.
Power on the high definition television and the surround sound receiver. Set the audio playback to the HDMI connection and the audio from the television now plays over the connected receiver.
