How to Hyperlink a Picture

A hyperlink helps you point to a website address or email from another Web page. You can add a hyperlink to text and graphics. When a hyperlink is added, a box automatically surrounds the hyperlinked picture on the Web. You can customize the appearance of the hyperlinked image and how the page opens. For example, the page may be set to open in the current (same) window or in a new window altogether.

Step 1

Start a text editor, such as Notepad, TextPad or open the HTML file you want to modify.

Step 2

Place the insertion point where you want the picture and hyperlink to go.

Step 3

Add the following HTML code to insert a hyperlink to a Web page. Replace “http://www.website.com” with the website address and “image.gif” with the picture’s file name:

Add the following HTML code to insert a hyperlink to an email address. Replace “myemail@website.com” with the email address and “image.gif” with the picture’s file name:

Modify ‘’ to ‘’ to remove the border from the picture when it’s linked. To make the hyperlink open in a new window, add ‘target=”_blank” to the anchor tag as follows:or
