How to Import Outlook Contacts to Gmail
Gmail makes it easy to import your account information, including contacts, from virtually any email service. The import process from web-based email services such as Yahoo! and Hotmail are one-step affairs, requiring simple account authorization, but there are extra steps when importing from a desktop email program. With Outlook, it is necessary to export the contact database into a format that Gmail can recognize. Once the file is prepared, simply import the database through the Gmail settings.
Things You'll Need
- Microsoft Outlook
- Web browser (or other device to access the World Wide Web)
- Gmail account
Select "File" and then "Import and Export."
Select "Export to a file" and then click "Next."
Choose "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" and then click "Next."
Choose "Contacts" and then click "Next."
Name and save the CSV file to your preferred location, then click "Next" and "Finish."
Open a web browser and login to Gmail.
Click "Browse..." and select the CSV file you created earlier in Outlook.
