How to Insert a Line in Word 2007

Aside from Microsoft Word 2007’s collection of text editing features, the word processor provides various drawing tools. Word allows you to insert freeform drawings, geometric shapes or straight lines to add to your text document. For instance, insert a line to separate columns or sections of text or draw a line where you’ll handwrite information on paper.

Step

Open a Microsoft Word 2007 document.

Step

Click the “Insert” tab. Click “Shapes” in the “Illustrations” group.

Step

Click the “Line” icon under the “Lines” group to insert a straight line. The cursor changes to a cross shape.

Step

Click where you want to begin the line.

Step

Move your cursor to draw the line. Click to end the line. The line will be selected, with two green end points.

Step

Click the “Format” tab under “Drawing Tools”, which only appears when a line is selected. Modify the line if you like with a different style or line color, or add a shadow effect.

Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click “Save” to save the document.
