How to Install a HP Deskjet 3520 Printer

By Bonnie Conrad

Desktop printers are generally inexpensive, and with the right care and maintenance they can last for a long time. Printers like the HP Deskjet 3520 are widely used in both homes and businesses. Taking the time to set up the printer up properly can save you a lot of hassles down the road.

Things You'll Need

  • Printer
  • Printer cable
  • Software CD
  • Ink cartridges

Step 1

Take you HP Deskjet 3520 printer out of the box and look for any orange packing materials. These protective spacers are designed to prevent the printer from being damaged in transit. They are colored orange to make them easier to spot. Be sure you have removed all orange materials before proceeding.

Step 2

Connect the power cord to the printer and plug the cord into an electrical outlet or surge protector. Watch for the power light to come on.

Step 3

Locate the paper tray and load it with paper. Slide the paper into the tray as far as it will go.

Step 4

Lift the lid of the printer and wait for the print cartridges to move to the center. Do not attempt to move the printer carriage by hand.

Step 5

Remove the protective tape from the printer cartridges and slide each one into the cradle. You will feel the cartridge snap into place.

Step 6

Insert the software installation CD that came with the Deskjet 3520 into your computer and wait for the welcome screen to appear. Install the software, then connect the printer cables after the software installation has been completed. Your Deskjet 3520 is now ready for use.
