How to Install a Lexmark Wireless Printer

By Stephanie Ellen

Lexmark wireless printers don't need to be connected to a computer with a USB cable; you can print from your computer or laptop to the printer over your wireless network. This comes in especially handy if you have several computers or laptops on your network: no more running around the house, moving the printer and trying to locate the USB, just hit "Print" on your computer program and send the file to the printer over the wireless network.

Things You'll Need

  • The name of your wireless network (SSID)
  • Security key for your network (WEP key or passphrase)

Step 1

Place the CD that came with the printer into your computer's CD drive.

Step 2

Wait for the welcome screen to appear. If the screen doesn't appear after a minute, click on the "Microsoft" button in Windows 7 or Vista and type "D:\setup.exe" into the Start Search box. In Windows XP, click "Start" and then click "Run." Type "D:\setup.exe." If your disk drive has a different letter, change the "D" in "D:\setup.exe" to the letter of your disk drive.

Step 3

Follow the instructions on the Welcome screen to set up the printer. You'll need to enter the name of your SSID and WEP key or passphrase during this process.

Step 4

Ensure that the green light is showing on your printer before attempting to print. Green indicates your printer is connected to a wireless network.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't know your SSID, launch your computer's network adapter utility and look for the network name. If you still can't find it, refer to the documentation that came with your wireless router.
  • You can use the wireless printer as a regular printer by connecting the USB port on the printer to a USB port on your computer with a USB cable. You'll still need to install the CD; the printer's driver is on it.
