How to Install Adobe Flash

Adobe Flash, formerly Macromedia Flash, is a cross-platform plug-in for Internet browsers that enables the user to view animations and movies on the web. It is available for Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux, Solaris, and a number of mobile operating systems, and is a necessary component in enjoying the experience of using the Internet to its fullest. Flash Player is free software available from the Adobe website and is available in a number of languages.

How to Install Macromedia Flash

Step 1

Go to www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download the newest edition of Flash Player. Once the executable file has downloaded, double-click the file and begin the installation process.

Step 2

Follow the steps outlined in the installation process until the player is completely installed.

Step 3

Restart your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your internet browser must be closed before beginning the installation process. Flash is a necessary component for playing a large variety of browser-based video games.The term "Flash" refers to not just the player but the authoring software and the files themselves, which use the extension .SWF.
  • Flash has the capability of installing small tracking files, similar to cookies, on the user's computer without their prior knowledge.
