How to Install Internet Explorer 8

By Risa Edwards

Internet Explorer 8 is the default browser that comes installed on Windows 7 and is available for download on other versions of Microsoft Windows. Internet Explorer 8 is more secure and offers more features than earlier versions. It is a good idea to have the latest version of Explorer, even if you prefer to use another browser, such as Firefox or Chrome. Many websites are only compatible with Internet Explorer, and there will be occasions when you must use this particular browser.

Step 1

Visit the Internet Explorer 8 website (see Resources section). Click on the orange "Download now" button.

Step 2

Decide if you want to download the program directly to your computer, or if you want to order an installation disk. An installation disk costs $5, but may be used to install the software on computers that do not have any browser available.

Step 3

Select the appropriate region from the drop-down menu and click on the version of Windows you are running.

Step 4

Change your Internet connection setting to get an estimated download time. Click on the gray "Download" button. Wait for the download to begin, or click on "Start download" if it does not begin automatically.

Step 5

Save the installation file to your desktop. This may take several minutes, depending on your connection speed.

Step 6

Double-click on the installation file and select "Run." Click on "Next" and confirm that you accept the license agreement. Click "Next" again to install the program.

Step 7

Restart the computer to finalize the installation. Choose "Restart later" to finish at a later time.
