How to Install or Activate Mixer Devices for Windows XP

The "there are no active mixer devices available" error message is fairly common error for Windows XP system users. You can circumvent this problem by reinstalling the Windows Audio service, which will reinstall the Windows Mixers required to product audio and play other types of files on your computer. This process takes 10 minutes or less.

Step 1

Click "Start" and click "Run."

Step 2

Type "services.msc" and press "Enter."

Step 3

Double click the entry for "Windows Audio."

Step 4

Select "Automatic" from the drop down menu and press the "Start" button. This will restart the service, reinstalling your mixers.
