How to Install Plug & Play Drivers for Windows XP

By TS Jordan

Plug and play drivers are generic software files that enable your computer to auto0detect and install a variety of hardware devices without you intervening directly, keeping your computing experience as engaging and "tech-free" as possible. Updating and installing new plug and play drivers is possible through the Windows XP Device Manager.

Step 1

Click "Start" and click "Control Panel."

Step 2

Select "Device Manager."

Step 3

Open the "System Devices" menu and double click on "Plug and Play."

Step 4

Select "Driver" and click "Update Driver."

Step 5

Click on the location of your hard drive where the new drivers are stored (the location where you downloaded the new driver or the CD drive containing the driver file) to update the drivers. This will automatically detect and install the new driver.
