There are 2 basic ways to connect speakers to a television set--either by running the speakers to a home theater receiver or amplifier or connecting the speakers directly to the TV. Learn how to make the connections both ways.
For an amplifier/receiver hookup, connect the audio/out cables from the back of your TV or cable box to the audio input jacks on the back of your receiver or amplifier. Connect the left, right, center and rear-channel speakers to the designated speaker jacks on the back of your amplifier or receiver.
For a direct speaker connection, connect the audio/out cables from the back of your TV or cable box to the audio jacks on the back of your speakers. Be sure to hook up the left (black wire) and right (red wire) signals to the correct jacks.
Reduce power demands on the TV set by connecting smaller, self-powered computer speakers using standard RCA jacks for the back of the TV, coupled to a mini-plug Y adapter for connecting to the computer speakers.
