How to Install the Belkin Wireless G Router Without the Software

By Dean Lee

Every router is equipped with a router utility that can be accessed using a Web browser. This allows you to manually setup the router, but also make adjustments after you have initially set it up. Normally, the router is packed with a CD that assists you in setting up the wireless settings, but you can use the router utility instead.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Router
  • 2 Ethernet cables
  • Internet modem
  • Modem cable

Step 1

Connect the modem cable from the wall jack to the Internet modem. If you have DSL, the modem cable will be a phone line. If you have cable modem or fiber optics, the modem cable will be a coaxial cable.

Step 2

Connect an Ethernet cable from the back of the DSL modem to the WAN port on the Wireless G Router.

Step 3

Connect an Ethernet cable from the computer to one of the four LAN ports on the Belkin Wireless G Router.

Step 4

Open a web browser and type in "", then click "Login" in the top right corner. Click submit without entering a password.

Step 5

Click on "Connection Type" and make sure the router is set to "Dynamic."

Step 6

Click on "Channel and SSID" and change the SSID to your desired network name.

Step 7

Click on Encryption and enter your desired wireless key. If you choose 64-bit WEP, the key must be 10 characters long and use 0-9 and/or A-F. If you choose 128.bit WEP, the key must be 20 characters, but with the same parameters. Save the settings and then exit the router.
