How to Jailbreak the iPad

By Dave Renn

Jailbreaking an iPad allows the user to install a wide variety of Apps that are not officially approved by Apple via the App Store. This allows the iPad to run programs with functionality otherwise unavailable. Jailbreaking an iPad is relatively simple and takes only a few minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • iPad USB cable
  • Spirit jailbreak software

Step 1

Back up the iPad via iTunes to ensure that critical data and settings on the iPad are preserved.

Step 2

Download the jailbreak software from Spirit via the link in References below.

Step 3

Quit iTunes on the computer.

Step 4

Launch the downloaded Spirit jailbreak software and connect the iPad to the computer (if not still connected).

Step 5

Click on the "Jailbreak" icon that is now clickable (on the computer) after connecting the iPad. The jailbreak process will begin automatically and will finish after it restarts the device.

Tips & Warnings

  • Download the Cydia iPad app, which allows jailbroken iPads to download applications.
