How to List on

By Robert Kingsley

Thanks to Craigslist, selling an item or posting a job offer has never been easier. Rather than wasting a beautiful Saturday haggling with neighbors or hanging help wanted signs, you can post a quick ad on Craigslist that will reach thousands of people in your local area and beyond. Potential buyers can shoot you an email if they're interested in what you have to offer and you can make the deal. You don't even need an account to list something on Craigslist.

Things You'll Need

  • Email account

Step 1

Open a Web browser on your computer and navigate to the website. Click "Post to Classifieds" in the upper left corner of the page.

Step 2

Designate the nature of your ad by clicking one of the available options. You can choose to post a job offer, sell an item, offer a gig or request a job, gig or item. Click "Continue" when you have made your selection.

Step 3

Narrow down your selection by choosing a category in which to list your offer. Click "Continue."

Step 4

Select your location from the list of areas. This will determine where your Craigslist ad will appear. Click "Continue."

Step 5

Enter the details of your free ad in the fields provided. Include a title, a price or offer, your specific location, your email address and a description of the job or item you are offering. Click "Add/Edit Images" and browse to the location of an appropriate picture on your computer. Click "Open" to include the photo with your posting. Click "Continue."

Step 6

Review your ad and check for errors. Click "Edit Again" to make changes. If you are happy with the post, click "Continue." Craigslist will send you an email with a link that you must activate to publish your ad.

Step 7

Open the email and click the activation link. Accept the terms of use and type the letters in the Captcha to confirm that you are a real person and not a computer posting spam. Your post will appear on Craigslist within 15 minutes. Click "Edit this Posting" to make any necessary changes or click "Delete this Posting" to remove your ad from the site.

Tips & Warnings
