How to Load Music from a CD to a Computer

Loading music from a CD to a computer can come in handy for a variety of reasons. Not only does it create a backup copy of the music from your CD, but it also allows you to listen to the CD on your computer, burn the music to a new CD, convert the music to a different audio format and much more. In order to load the music onto your computer, you can use Windows Media Player on a PC or iTunes on a Mac. Both software programs are free and come installed on their designated operating systems.

PC

Step 1

Open Windows Media Player.

Step 2

Insert the CD you would like to load music from into your computer.

Step 3

Click the “Rip Settings” button if you would like to change the audio quality or rip format from the default import settings.

Step 4

Click “Rip CD” and the music from your CD will be loaded onto your computer.

Step 5

Eject the CD when finished and repeat this process for each additional CD you would like to load onto your computer.

Mac

Step 1

Open iTunes.

Step 2

Click “iTunes,” select “Preferences” and open the “Import Settings” menu if you would like to change the audio quality or rip format from the default import settings.

Step 3

Insert the CD you would like to load music from into your computer.

Step 4

Click “Yes” when prompted by iTunes to import the CD, and the music from your CD will be loaded onto your computer.

Step 5

Eject the CD when finished and repeat this process for each additional CD you would like to load onto your computer.
