How to Locate a Lost iPhone by GPS

Find My iPhone is a free service that is available with a paid MobileMe account that allows you to locate a lost iPhone using the phone's built-in Global Positioning System. Once you have set up your iPhone with this service, you can use GPS to locate your lost iPhone by logging in to the MobileMe website and viewing a map displaying the approximate location of your lost iPhone.

Things You'll Need

  • MobileMe account
  • Computer
  • Internet connection

Step 1

Setup your MobileMe account on your iPhone. Tap the "Settings" icon and select the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" option. Select "Add Account." Press "MobileMe." Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup process.

Step 2

Activate the Find My iPhone feature. Tap the "Settings" icon and select the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" option. Select your MobileMe account and move the switch to the right of Find My iPhone to the "On" position.

Step 3

Open a Web browser on your computer and go to the MobileMe webiste (See Resources). Enter your MobileMe email address and case-sensitive password and click the blue "Sign In" button.

Step 4

Click the "Account" tab and then select the "Find My iPhone" option. Select your iPhone. A map will open displaying the location of your iPhone with a blue pin. If Find My iPhone can't find the exact location of your phone, you will see a blue circle around the pin showing the approximate location on the map.
