How to Look Up a Completely Private Facebook User

By Emma Nichols

Facebook provides users with a variety of privacy settings to keep their profiles private and secure. These settings can range from only allowing friends access to the profile to hiding the default profile photo to not allowing your profile to appear in Google's search engine. If you are looking for a specific friend and she has security settings in place, you can still find her on Facebook by narrowing the search down on Facebook's search.

Step 1

Type the name of the person you are looking for in the search bar at the top of your Facebook homepage. Click "See More Results" under the suggested people and pages, or click the magnifying glass.

Step 2

Click "People" on the left sidebar so you are only viewing personal profiles and not any fan pages or groups.

Step 3

Enter the person's region, workplace or school at the top of the page to narrow the search results.

Step 4

Scroll through the search results until you find the person you are looking for.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you know a mutual friend the person you are looking for on Facebook definitely has added, go to the mutual friend's profile and click "Friends." Type his name in the search bar to see if he has your mutual friend added as a Facebook friend.
  • If the person you are looking for has a nickname, type his nickname in the search bar; he may have his profile listed under that instead.
