How to Make a Distribution List on iPhone

By Abby Vaun

When you regularly send emails to a group of people from your iPhone, you might consider creating a distribution list in your smartphone. Once you save your list as a contact in your phone, you can enter the list name in the "To:" field of your email rather than typing everybody's individual email address. Although various mail applications are available for purchase from which you can create a list, you can make the list without using an app.

Step 1

Tap the "Notes" icon on your iPhone home screen, and then tap the "+" sign to open a new note.

Step 2

Enter the email addresses you want to add to the distribution list. Type a "<" at the beginning of each address and a ">" at the end. Also, separate each address with a comma and do not put a space between addresses. For example, ",,."

Step 3

Tap the screen twice at the end of your list. Three options appear. Tap "Select All" from the options.

Step 4

Press the "Home" button, and tap the "Contacts" application on the home screen.

Step 5

Tap the "+" at the top right corner to create a new contact.

Step 6

Tap the email field twice, and select "Paste."

Step 7

Enter a name for you list in the name or company fields at the top of the screen. Tap "Done."

Tips & Warnings

  • The next time you want to send an email to your distribution list, enter the list contact name in the "To" field.
  • If you have a long list of emails to add, you can compose your list from Step 2 in an email on your computer. Then email it to your iPhone. Select and copy it from the email screen on your phone and continue from Step 4.
