How to Make a Flash Drive Bigger

You can make a flash drive bigger by reformatting it. After you have reformatted a flash drive, it will erase the entire drive and maximize its storage capacity. In order to do this, simply use the utility software provided on your computer.

Using Windows

Step 1

Plug the flash drive you would like to make bigger into a USB port on your computer.

Step 2

Click the "Start" button.

Step 3

Select "My Computer."

Step 4

Right click your flash drive within the "My Computer" window and select "Format."

Step 5

Choose a "File System" compatible with your needs. For instance, the "FAT 32" file system is compatible with both Mac and PC computers.

Step 6

Rename the flash drive by typing a name in the "Volume Label" box.

Step 7

Click "Start" and select "OK" to reformat the flash drive.

Step 8

Click "OK" when this process is complete and your flash drive will be at maximum storage capacity. You have now successfully made a flash drive bigger (See References 1).

Using a Mac

Step 1

Plug the flash drive you would like to make bigger into a USB port on your computer.

Step 2

Click on the "Finder."

Step 3

Select the "Applications" folder.

Step 4

Open "Utilities" and double click "Disc Utility."

Step 5

Click the "Erase" tab and then select your flash drive.

Step 6

Choose a "Volume Format" compatible with your needs. For instance, the "FAT 32" file system is compatible with both Mac and PC computers.

Step 7

Rename the flash drive by typing a name in the "Name" box.

Step 8

Click "Erase" to reformat the flash drive. When this process is complete, your flash drive will be at maximum storage capacity. You have now successfully made a flash drive bigger (See References 2).
