How to Make a Heart Symbol With a Key

By Andrea Griffith

Many people love to add little symbols and signs when they're corresponding with other people via the computer. However, if you don't have Wing Dings font (the heart symbol is "Y"), you may think that typing a heart isn't possible. Instead of typing "<3" as your heart, you can learn that there is a super easy key combination for both PCs and Macs that will allow you to type a heart into any text.

PCs

Step 1

Place your cursor in the text box or email where you want your heart to be typed.

Step 2

Press and hold down "Alt" on your computer. The Alt key is located on either side of the Space Bar.

Step 3

Press "3" while still holding down the Alt key. A small heart will be typed on the screen. Skip to Step 4 to type the heart on a message wall (like Facebook or MySpace).

Step 4

Type "♥" (minus the quotes) on your keyboard to create the heart.

Macs

Step 1

Place your cursor in the text box or email where you want your heart to be typed.

Step 2

Click "Edit" on the toolbar.

Step 3

Select "Special Characters."

Step 4

Click "Miscellaneous" on the Category screen. Select a heart--there are several to choose from.

Step 5

Click "Insert" to insert the heart into the document or text field on your computer.
