How to Make a JPEG Smaller to Email It

By Tammy Clevenger

Making a JPEG image smaller so you can include it in an email message is advisable, because many email users have program-related size limitations on the images and files they can receive as attachments. Reducing the image size of a JPEG image reduces the JPEG file size. You can make the JPEG smaller using the Microsoft Paint program. Microsoft Paint is installed, by default, with all Windows operating systems.

Step 1

Right-click on the JPEG image to show the File context menu.

Step 2

Click the “Open With” option and then click the “Microsoft Paint” option in the list of available programs. The JPEG opens in the Paint application.

Step 3

Click on the bottom right corner of the JPEG image.

Step 4

Drag the bottom right corner inward toward the center of the graphic. The image shrinks in size.

Step 5

Click the “Paint” option on the top navigation bar and then click “Save” to save your changes.
