How to Make a Laptop Internet Router

By Bennett Gavrish

The purpose of an Internet router is to allow multiple computer users share a single network connection and create a local area network, or LAN. If you do not have an Ethernet or wireless router, you can turn your laptop into one. When you make your laptop into an Internet router, the laptop shares its network connection with other nearby systems and assigns them each a unique IP address.

Things You'll Need

  • PC or Mac laptop

PC Instructions

Step 1

Connect your PC laptop to your Internet source. The Internet source can be a wireless network or a wired Ethernet connection from a cable or DSL modem.

Step 2

Log on to your PC laptop with an administrator account.

Step 3

Open the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel."
