How to Make a Touchpad Scroll

Your laptop's touchpad can be used to replace most of the functionality of a mouse. Its buttons provide the same click functions as a mouse and, while it doesn't have a mouse wheel, it can scroll through browsers and documents just as a wheel does. Unlike many mouse wheels, the touchpad can scroll both horizontally and vertically. Run your finger up the pad's right edge to scroll vertically and along the bottom edge to scroll from side to side. Enable this feature though the Windows mouse settings dialog box.

Your finger's movement on the pad controls your cursor.

Step

Click the "Start" button in the screen's lower-left corner. This opens the Start menu.

Step

Type "mouse" into the menu's search bar. Click "Mouse" from the search results, under the heading "Control Panel." This opens the "Mouse Properties" window.

Step

Click on the "Device Settings" tab. The "Devices" box will list your touchpad, and it will automatically appear highlighted.

Step

Click the "Settings" button. This launches your device driver's settings dialog box.

Step

Click on the entry for "Scrolling." If the subheading "One-finger scrolling" appears, click on that next.

Step

Check the boxes for "Enable vertical scrolling" and "Enable horizontal scrolling."

Step

Click "OK" to close this and the main "Mouse Settings" window.

Step

Restart your computer.
