How to Make an Invitation Template

Invitations can be made on your home computer using online software or software on your computer. There are several free templates available. You only need to add your information and print the invitations on your choice of paper. This can make the invitation portion of the event quick, easy, and cost efficient. Prepare the invitations in advance so you can get the materials before you need to print them.

Microsoft Word

Step 1

Open Word 2007 and select the template gallery. Select the "Office" button and "New." In the category list, select Invitations. Word will display additional sub-categories for categories.

Step 2

Open up one of the sub-categories and search for an invitation. When you find one, click on it and select "Download."

Step 3

Modify the newly downloaded template with information about your upcoming event. Save your changes by clicking the "Save" icon on the Quick Access Toolbar.

Google Docs

Step 1

Access Google Documents online and locate the template gallery. Search for invitation templates by typing "Invitation" in the Google Docs search box. Press "Enter."

Step 2

View the templates listed below the search box and click on "Preview" to get additional details on the templates. When you find one you want to use, click "Use this template."

Step 3

Modify the newly downloaded template with information about your upcoming event. Rename your template by selecting "File" and "Rename." Save your changes by clicking the "Save" icon on the File menu.

American Greetings

Step 1

Access the American Greetings Printable Party website. Click on the red "Join Now" button. Join the free membership club. Confirm your membership.

Step 2

Return to the American Greeting Printable Party website. Select the invitation template you like and click on "Getting Started." The Create and Print window opens.

Step 3

Modify your template by using the buttons or photos, text, and art. Click on "Save Project" to save your template. Print your template by clicking on the "Print" button.
