How to Make Photoshop Templates Work in GIMP

By Tammy Clevenger

GIMP is an acronym for the GNU Image Manipulation program, a free open-source image editing program. GIMP offers many of the same features as higher-end graphic editors, such as Adobe Photoshop. In fact, templates created in Adobe Photoshop will work in GIMP without much manipulation of the template file. Just make sure you save your Photoshop templates as PSD files. GIMP will import the PSD template.

Step 1

Open the GIMP application.

Step 2

Click the File option on the top navigation bar and select Open. The File Open window launches.

Step 3

Click the File Type drop-down box in the File Open box, and then select the “Adobe Photoshop (*.psd)” option from the list.

Step 4

Navigate to and click on the PSD template. Click “Open.” The PSD template file opens in the GIMP editor.
