How to Make Signs & Symbols for Facebook

By Jay Leon

Symbols and signs have different uses on Facebook. You might want to use legal, technical or currency symbols to enhance conversations and messages. Or you might want to express your feelings much as you would with emoticons on chat. Then again, you might simply want to impress friends with the use of unusual characters in your status updates. Windows has a free tool you can borrow symbols from and use on Facebook.

Step 1

Click the Start menu button in Windows 7. Type "Character Map" in the search box. Click the Character Map application or hit "Enter."

Step 2

Click the drop-down button next to the "Font" list. Click a font with a circular symbol before its name.

Step 3

Check the "Advanced view" box to reveal additional options. Select "Unicode Subrange" in the "Group by" list.

Step 4

Select a group of symbols in the small window that appears, such as "Miscellaneous Technical." The main window will update to show the symbols belonging to that group.

Step 5

Click a symbol. Click the "Select" button. The selected symbol will appear in the box that says "Character to copy."

Step 6

Click "Copy."

Step 7

Go to Facebook and log into your account.

Step 8

Click the Facebook status box. Click "CTRL+ V" to paste the character. Click "Share" to publish the status to your wall.
