How to Mirror an Image in Adobe

By Greyson Ferguson

There are many different Adobe programs available that allow you to edit and manipulate images, the most popular being Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. These two programs give you a wide variety of options when it comes to editing an image. One of the countless effects you have to work with is the mirror image effect, which allows you to flip over an image so it is a reflection of your current content.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator

Step 1

Launch the Adobe software you are using, then open the image on which you want to use a mirror image.

Step 2

Click the "View" tab at the top of the screen, then select "New Guide." From the New Guide menu choose "Vertical" if you want the mirror to appear left to right, or "Horizontal" if you want the mirror to be top to bottom." Click "OK" and a line will appear on the screen.

Step 3

Select the square selection tool at the top right of the tools bar, then click and drag over the area of the image that you want to copy.

Step 4

Right-click the content you just copied and select "New," followed by "Layer via Copy." This creates a new layer on your document.

Step 5

Select the new layer (at the bottom right of the screen there is a "Layer" section), then click "Edit," followed by "Transform." Seclect "Flip Horizontal" or "Flip Vertica,l" and the image will flip.
