How to Move a Toshiba 36-inch Tube TV
A 36-inch Toshiba is heavier than it looks, weighing almost 200 pounds, and very awkward to get a solid grip for moving. Having someone help you move this unit is highly recommended. There are different techniques to use if you are moving across the house to another room or to another location. When lifting heavy objects, be sure to lift with the knees by bending down and lifting up. Do not bend over and try to lift as this might cause damage to your back.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic disc movers
- Moving straps
- Flat board
Moving From Room to Room
Buy plastic disc movers from hardware store or a moving company.
Slip the plastic discs under each edge of the television. Have someone hold one side up while you slip the discs underneath. Repeat on the other side.
Push the Toshiba in the direction of the new location with the other person guiding and pulling. Typically one person will be facing forward and one backward.
Remove the discs once settled in new location.
Using Moving Straps
Purchase or rent moving straps and blankets from a moving company.
Lay the straps on the floor where you are going to slide the television. Place the blanket on top of the straps. Use the blanket to protect the Toshiba during the move.
Slide the television, with the help of another person, onto the blanket. Cover the Toshiba and then secure the strap and begin moving out of the house or apartment. Use caution going down stairs.
Angle the television so the base points down the stairs and the top is leaning upward. This helps in moving a large, bulky television.
Secure on the moving truck and take to the new location.
Using a Flat Board
Place a flat piece of board with lifting straps underneath on the floor. Set blankets on top of the board for the television to sit on. The board should be a bit wider than the Toshiba. The board is not used to bear the weight of the TV but is used to slide the Toshiba down stairs.
Secure the Toshiba to the board with the lifting straps while also covering it with the blanket for protection during the move.
Slide the television to the doorway and then, with help, begin going down the stairs keeping the bottom pointed downward at an angle with the top of the Toshiba facing upward instead of straight up and down. The angle makes for an easier time getting it down the stairs and to the moving van.
