How to Open a PDF in Word

By Craig Witt

Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) lets authors distribute documents that appear the same on any operating system and that cannot be easily edited. Although Microsoft Word does not provide native support for the PDF format, several free, web-based conversion tools allow you to transform PDF files to Word's DOC format with just a few clicks. Open the converted DOC file in Word to view and edit the text and images contained in the original PDF.

Using PDF Online

Step 1

Log on to the PDF Online website (see Resources).

Step 2

Click "Choose File," locate the PDF file you want to convert to DOC format, and select it by double-clicking its icon.

Step 3

Click "Upload and Convert."

Step 4

Right-click the "Right-click here" link and save the resulting ZIP archive to your computer.

Step 5

Double-click the icon of the ZIP archive to open it. Click "Extract" or "Extract All Files" to save the DOC file found inside to your computer.

Step 6

Double-click the icon of the DOC file to open it in Microsoft Word. The contents contained in the original PDF file can now be viewed and edited in Word.
