How to Open a .PUB Document in OpenOffice
Open Office provides free programs that are similar to Microsoft Office programs, and most of the Microsoft Office files can be opened by Open Office programs. However, a .pub document cannot be opened by Open Office directly. The .pub file format is compatible with Microsoft Publisher. There is not an equivalent program for Microsoft Office Publisher in Open Office, and the .pub file must be converted to another format before it can be opened in Open Office. Saving the .pub file as a .doc file is an easy way to open the contents of the .pub document with Open Office Writer.
Launch Microsoft Publisher, and open the .pub file you wish to open in Open Office.
Click the “File” menu and click “Save As.”
Choose “Word Document” under the “Save As Type” drop-down menu. Choose the desired file location and click “Save.” The .pub file should now be saved as a Word document file.
Launch Open Office Writer and open the Word Document. The contents of the .pub file are now open in your Open Office software.
Tips & Warnings
- If the format of the publisher file is changed when you save it as a Word document, copy and paste the contents of the Publisher file by using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to a new Word document, and format the contents manually.
